Availability Sat May 8th v Briars at Rothwell Park in Concord.

Let Gloss know if you can’t make it this weekend.

5th Grade

We are playing 5ths v Sydney Convicts this weekend. The game will be played at Rothwell Park at 9:45am before Colts. We will need a couple of extra players for this so if you have any mates who are keen for a run let me know and bring them along to training on Thursday night.

Backing up for higher grades

With the change to the replacement laws this year it is now even more important to ensure that you stick around (with boots on) to reserve for the grade above you. To make it very clear if you are not backing up fro the grade above it will lead to you being dropped as we can’t be left with no subs as we have been for a few positions lately.

Found – pair of sunnies

A pair of sunnies was handed in to me at training last Thursday.
If they are yours pls let me know.

”In Year 11 and year 12, I used to work with a hooker there, Mark Wilkinson (KOB’s 1st Grade) – even now I speak to him. We used to talk about how we would get stuck into the tight-heads, get underneath them and pop them up in the air. I really enjoyed that challenge and it has passed into my professional career. That is something you really pride yourself on, your scrum work.”

Hi all,

Congratulations to you all – particularly 1st Grade and Colts – on some fantastic wins over the past couple of weekends. The enthusiasm, commitment and quality has been lifted a notch when we needed to and some rewards have come our way.

It’s no secret we need to keep it going to survive our first year back in Kentwell for some 30 years. If we keep turning up to training, keep focussed and keep supporting each other, we’ll give oursleves a good chance.

This week will be disrupted again with some midweek games for 3rds and 4ths, but no matter – everyone will be together on Saturday at Forest for what will no doubt be tough fixtures in every grade. Forest are a good club and going well this year – it will be a challenge but I reckon we’re up for it!

I look forward to seeing you all during the week and on Saturday.

Cheers,

Pete Whittington

Congratulations to Mark Wilkinson who has been selected as starting hooker for the NSW Combined Subbies team which plays NSW Country this Saturday before the Waratahs match at the SFS. We wish Mark all the best for the game and congratulations on your selection. It is a huge achievemnet and one the club is very proud of.

For those of you going to the game, try and get out there early to support Wilko.

The traditional clash will kick-off at 5:15pm as the curtain raiser to the HSBC Waratahs Super 14 clash with the Bulls.

The NSW Suburban Rugby Union today announced its team and congratulates the representative players and their clubs.

The Union wishes to thank all the players who trialled and trained with the team in the lead up to the match. The Union is also grateful to the clubs who support the representative program.

Across Sydney tomorrow, 15 NSW Suburban grand finals will be contested. It will be an enormous day for Sydney’s oldest subbies club, Petersham, which in its 125th year will be involved in all four grades in the third-division grand finals. [Read more]

Your vote counts. Your mate’s vote counts. If he doesn’t read email, call him, tell him what’s what, and get those votes in to Jon Hayward or SMS 0412 587009.

Matters administrative: A couple of things have been gently pointed out to me.

  1. You are actually voting on the Player’s Player award. B&F is decided upon by your respective coaches. My bad. A senior moment.
  2. Several of you have pointed out that the spreadsheet I attached last night dudded you out of several games. That’s because I got a bit lazy and decided to reuse the one I submitted to Subbies for Finals eligibility determination purposes; it only listed your highest run on game in any round, replacement appearances not counted, because that’s what Subbies want. I’ve spent this evening constructing The Real Thing – For each game you run on in, in any grade, you get a vote. If you were a replacement, you get half a vote.

It’s all documented and backed up by the teamsheets as entered into the Subbies’ system, which is the best evidence we’ve got, and I’m more than happy to open the books should anyone want me to.

So exciting. This is visceral, from the heart, conviction voting. Shows up the John and Kevin show as the pathetic cynical pandering vote buying exercise that it is.

Best
Jon

A big congrats to all the Lads who got up on the weekend……..

Now that we have a couple of teams through to the Big GF just thought I’d give a few reminders:

1) The bus trip out and Back is a must for all KOBBIES. It is an occasion not to be missed. If you could get in touch with your coach and let him/her know if you are coming on the bus. They can then let me know. If you have not let them know then we can not assure you a spot on the Venga Bus. I have heard on the Grape vine that 1sts, 4ths, Hooligans and Colties are having their respective get togethers out at the GF.

2)Start Organising Leave of some sort for the Annual Monday lawn bowls and beers event (13th Sept). We need members from all the KOBBY teams to compete for the Hotly contested ‘KOBBY cup’, taken out last year by the Mighty 4th graders.

See you then, If not before

Cheers
Freck

Further to the success of the first two Golden Oldies days the 3rd Annual Event is on again on Saturday July 12. The format will be the same as last year subject to numbers and age profile (our game will be internal). The Club will be playing Barker Old Boys on the day.

Would you please get back to Paul McGettigan, Charlie Mason or Richard Weekes
