So everyone is now registered but still a lot of you are yet to pay your subs. There are three ways to pay, and here they are:

Direct Debit

Simply pay the appropriate fee to the KOBs account. Rego fees this season are $250 for grade players and $170 for colts. Our account details are:

BSB: 082 067
Account Number: 12 393 8285
Account Name: King’s Old Boys Rugby

Please make sure you attach your name to the transfer.

Paypal

Simply select your appropriate level and pay with either a valid Paypal account or your credit card.

Level

Cash

Simply bring cash to training or on Saturday. This is our least preferred method though, as we have had big trouble with crime syndicates and shady foreigners (eg the Lagudis) trying to launder dirty money through KOBs. Either that or we just don’t like walking around with stacks of cash on us. So please pay electronically if you can.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Toby, Steve or Cav. Nothing matters more to us than taking your money.

The mighty KOBs ventured to Camperdown Oval for the first competition round of the season against Petersham, and emerged victorious in both Colts and 1sts after close losses in 4s, 3s and 2s. There were plenty of good signs in all grades and with a home game against Oatley this weekend there is plenty to be excited about.

4s kicked off the day and took on a motivated Shammies outfit who were strong across the park. In a brutal physical affair Petersham emerged victorious 16-3 with a few late tries sealing the deal despite a close tussle throughout. After the game OC likened the play to ‘trench warfare’, which carries plenty of weight considering OC actually served in World War I and has had considerable first hand experience of ACTUAL trench warfare. Number 8 Towellsy was a clear standout bagging 3 points, with OC grabbing 2 and Macvicar 1.

If 4s was like World War I, then 3s was more reminiscent of Vietnam. Dirty, hard-fought with an incomplete ending. Did anyone REALLY win? Well, yes. Petersham. But the end score of 3-0 is a good illustration of how tight the game was. KOBs carved up out wide but Petersham defended the ruck admirably and in the end were too hard to breach. Ed Love took away the 3 points, with Derek and Ruds taking out the minors.

So if 4s was WW1, 3s was Vietnam, Colts were… OK I’m fucking sick of thinking up these war metaphors so you can just do your own if you want. Colts dominated from start to finish and won 22-12. The smaller Shammies pack just couldn’t cope with the might of the KOBs boys at the set piece, and the backline had little difficulty finding space. I don’t know who got the points but Dan Carter, Luke Rowntree and Josh Andrews all had belters.

2s came out fired up but met a committed Petersham side and went down 25-10. It was a patchy effort from 2s who will be undoubtedly looking to right the ship this weekend, however they showed glimpses of what they are capable of with two good second half tries. Again can’t remember points but Mouley, Brad and Thomson all had crackers.

The best was yet to come for KOBs though. Petersham 1s clearly fancied themselves- they had about five coaches, two physios, a dietician and sports psychologist. KOBs on the other hand only had coach Deane. That said Deano serves as KOBs coach, physio, motivational speaker, psychologist, trainer, masseur, strapper, analyst and wedding planner (little known fact- flower arranging was Deano’s first true passion). So it seemed KOBs were entering the game as solid underdogs, and after conceding an early try it looked like Petersham would be too strong for the visitors.

However the game took a remarkable turn, with KOBs slowly getting back into the contest and scoring on the bell to inch ahead 7-5 at the break. In the second half though it was one-way traffic, with KOBs scoring twice more to take it out 25-5 in convincing fashion. It was a great team effort, with great performances from Wol, Mitch ‘Shake and’ Baker, new boy Aurelian ‘Michelak’, Fordy and Pagey. As the Kobbies men celebrated, the Petersham team began a lengthy warm-down routine reminiscent of the Waratahs.

When approached for a comment for this article coach Deane broke down and wept on my shoulder. He eventually composed himself enough to say “I want Coach of KOBs to be a lifetime appointment. I will do this until I die. I am the King of KOBs, and I want the players to bow down before me”.  Ominous words from the supercoach.

All in all it was a good outing for the club, and this Saturday we return to the Kingdome to tackle Oatley. Make sure you get to training on Thursday, we have plenty to work on!

Welcome to Lagudi’s Love Tips, the column where we put your questions to KOBs resident love guru Mike Lagudi.

Lesson 1 covers the first impression, a crucial component to seducing the woman of your desire:

Dear Mike,

I’m a young colt and new to the bar scene. I’ve heard you’re a Kobbies legend and a real man about town. What are the best ways to lay the ‘groundwork’ with the ladies?

Yours,

Bashful

Bashful,

The approach
In answer to your question young colty- laying the groundwork, to me, is the stock standard move. The approach is crucial, and you need to make sure you have sized up your target from all angles (I have provided a pictoral example on the right). When you make eye contact with your beast across the room….you waltz over…or foxtrot… throw the odd pirouette…the goose step…show your agility ability and even if possible a chip and chase (could incur serious injury so practice your kicking in front of a mirror). Go up to her and say…….”Hey baby…you know what an Australian Kiss is?” She will reply with “O no sexy demon please tell me”….”It’s a French one but down under…” and finish with the lick around the outside of your drink and the wink that shows you mean business!

Folk of KOBS colts, I have exposed my golden international move, use it wisely and works a treat with the foreign ladies….

Another simple move is slide on over and reach behind the bar and grab a handful of ice and break it over her head, preferably with the absence of injury (as this is how Tim ‘the sting’ Rea suffered yet another serious career threatening injury) then hit her with the punch line “Now I have broken the ice…let me buy you a drink….call the waiter….2 wet pussy’s as this one is on the verge!”

These two moves work 70% of the time everytime.

Do not be shy to send me a line for any tips, advise or revolutionary tactics on life, dating and all things womanly related. And my tip for the day: Dont be a fool, wrap your tool. Let it marinate.

Gentlemen go and be wise,

From the KOBS’s home grown Italian Stallion

Any issues, gimme (TMoule) a call 0400338348.

Our brand new online registration and payment system is now up and running and ready to use. This email will have all the instructions for you to easily register and pay for season 2012. Please bear with me as it can be a little complex, especially for new players.

It is an ARU requirement that you register. If you don’t register then you cannot play in 2012- it’s that simple.

I will also say from the start that if you have ANY issues with this then please email me at hughcavill@yahoo.com.au . This is a new system and there may be teething problems. Please be patient if this is the case.

Also, IF YOU PLAYED IN ORANGE this year then you are already registered and don’t need to worry about any of this. Please stop reading and enjoy your day.

So here’s how you rego for 2012:

-          Players that were registered with KOBs last year

You have it easy. In a minute you will be sent an email from the ARU with a personalised link. Click it, then simply follow the prompts to register and pay.

The ARU email will go to the email you put on your rego forms last season. If this has changed, or you don’t get the email for any reason, contact me and I’ll fix it up.

If you have already paid, select ‘I will pay cash’.

If you have not paid, you can pay with a PayPal account or on credit card. If you have neither of these, you can select ‘I will pay cash’ and pay either via an online EFT transfer (details on the website) or by bringing cash to training. Note that if you select this option the system records it and I will hunt you down for your money.

-          Players that were not registered with KOBs last year

For you it is slightly more difficult. To register, click on the following link:

http://www.rugby.com.au/tryrugby/Register.aspx?organisationid=D66B7577-F82C-465B-8634-BDFB85F6DB22

After you click ‘continue’, you will be asked to provide login details for MyRugby. If you have ever played rugby in Australia, you should have an account with MyRugby. IF YOU CAN’T REMEMBER ANY OF THE DETAILS PLEASE EMAIL ME. I will look up your account number and username. There are options on the website if you have forgotten your password or username as well.

If you have never played rugby in Australia (which I don’t think should be too many of you) then you can create an account.

Once you are logged in the process is relatively simple. Click ‘continue shopping’, and you should be presented with the two options- grade membership and colts membership. Select the one that is right for you and hit ‘add to basket’. Then fill in your details and proceed to the checkout.

The most important thing to remember is that if you have any questions or problems, please email me. My email is hughcavill@yahoo.com.au . I can sort out most problems. Hopefully.

KOBS continued their perfect trial record with four wins against Epping at Somerville Park on Saturday. Far away from the comforts of the Kingdome some pundits expected us to struggle, however they were put in their place with another clean sweep.

The day started with two hard-fought games in 4s and 3s, both being decided by less than a converted try. Both were hard, physical encounters with the big Epping forwards proving hard to manage. However both teams adapted brilliantly to the warm conditions and were able to come away with two sterling wins.

KOBS showed their class in the top two grades though. After a lean season in 2011 2nd grade has been reborn with some fresh faces and these changes paid dividends on Saturday. They started slowly but established their dominance in the forwards and ended up winning comfortably four tries to one.

But the best was yet to come with 1st grade showing some very promising signs for the 2012 Barraclough Cup campaign with a convincing win. Like the preceding games the opening stanza was tight, but our boys stuck to the task and gradually got on top. The tries were evenly distributed and the 40+ scoreline clearly had coach Deane excited for what lies ahead in 2012.

Deane said after the match “This is probably the high point of my life so far. But if we beat Petersham in two weeks time… well, I don’t know what I will do. But shit is going to get real.” Ominous words.

Later that evening, Deane added “I want to send a warning to every other side in Subbies: KOBS are coming for you, and we can’t be stopped. And to prove that, watch me do a push-up where I clap BEHIND my back”. The results can be seen on facebook.

But all in all it was yet another successful outing for KOBS in 2012. The first competition game of the season takes place against Petersham on Saturday April 14 at Camperdown Oval, with the season launch to follow at the Nags. Get excited boys, season 2012 is here!

Results vs St Ives @ The Kingdome

This was a great first up result for the club with every grade getting up! Honourable mention goes to Jordan Phelan for a massive hit on the St Ives 7 off the Kick Off in 1st grade to take out the hit of the pre-season, so far! It’s still early days though so we won’t be reading into this result too much and expect big numbers at training this week to continue building momentum.

This week:

From our Sponsors:

A great player from our recent past (and current roster if we have anything to do with it) is now plying his trade as a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Dan Bligh works at Bradfield Cleary and has kindly offered his services to the club. Dan works in sales so if you have any family, colleagues or friends that are looking to sell then he’d be happy to help.

Dan also understands that most of us are a lifetime away from buying or selling in the Eastern Suburbs so he also suggested that we check out their rental listings and he’d put in a character reference for anyone from the club that applies (this is gold dust in a competitive rental market).

For sales: DanielBligh@bradfieldcleary.com.auhttp://www.bradfieldcleary.com.au/

The first trial for 2012 is on this Saturday at The Kingdome (Old Boys field at The King’s School). Squad lists will be circulated by email and on facebook tomorrow. If you’re not listed and are keen to play, email president@kobweb.org.au or alex.deane@hotmail.com. Otherwise, feel free to turn up in time for the game which you think suits your ability best. EVERYONE will get a run in one game or another so come down and bring your mates too. As always, the BBQ will be running and there will be cold beers flowing.

Churr bro,

Toby

Kick off to season 2012 is nearly here! We have been working hard in the off season to spruce things up a bit… Some things you’ll notice (social media presence including videos, etc) and other things you won’t (leprechauns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow). Most importantly, we play our first external match this weekend (providing we all survive Friday night) in the Orange 10′s tournament.

The competition starts in 1 month today, so get down to training on Thursdays (tomorrow included) and have a kick about with the boys. The following is a summary of what is planned over the next few weeks:

  • Orange 10s this weekend (positions still available in the playing and non-playing tour parties)
  • Sat 24th of March – St Ives @ Kingdome (finishing around 2pm to allow time for everyone to get to the Tahs v Sharks game kicking off at 3:30 that afternoon)
  • Sat 31st of March – Epping @ Somerville Oval in Epping (followed by Rego night https://www.facebook.com/events/335827806469217/)
  • We then have the easter weekend off
  • 1ST ROUND is against Petersham @ Petersham on the 14th of April!
See you all tomorrow night.

Toby
